| Everyone loses scalp hair. At birth, the average head is covered with around 100, 000 follicles - pouch-like sacs that produce individual hairs. Though the number never changes, the activity of each follicle changes as we grow older. Excessive loss of hair is called alopecia. It can be brought on by hereditory factors, disease or even medication. The most frequently observed type of excessive hair loss is called androgenetic alopecia. It is responsible for around 95% of the cases of baldness in the United States. Males are at higher risk of developing androgenetic alopecia. Two factors determine hair growth: a genetic predisposition to undue hair loss and the male hormone testosterone.Usually, an enzyme in hair follicles converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT stimulates the growth of body and face hair, but also diminishes hair follicles on the scalp, resulting in finer, fuzzier growth. A genetic predisposition, coupled by raised levels of testosterone and DHT, increases the probability baldness. Baldness occurs when the number of hair shedding is bigger than the rate of re-growth or when the re-growth is finer and/or shorter than the hair that is shed.Androgenetic alopecia is not a medical disorder; it is more a cosmetic problem. Propecia (Finasterine) is one the most potent methods to treat it approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Taken daily in a pill form, Propecia slows down the conversion of testosterone to DHT, thus helping to prevent the diminishing of hair follicles. The pill is for men only and must not be taken by females, as it can cause birth defects.Generic Propecia, which is as effective in treating alopecia as the brand name medication, is a lot cheaper and, thus, can be bought by a larger number of men experiencing undue hair loss. At the end of 24 months' study 83% of males aged 18 - 41 with mild to moderate treated with Generic Propecia were sensitive to the treatment. Most men reported improvement in appearance. Like all prescription drugs, Generic Propecia may lead to adverse side effects. In clinical studies, side effects from Generic Propecia were rare and did not impact most males. An insignificant number of males reported some sexual side effects, such as lowered sexual drive, difficulty in achieving an erection and a decreased amount of semen. These adverse side effects were impermanent and disappeared in males who stopped taking Generic Propecia. These adverse side effects also disappeared in most men (58%) who kept on taking Generic Propecia.Should you require further information on potency and side effects of Generic Propecia, please visit genericpropeciaonline.com. |
